Dioxin and Cancer?
Dioxin has always been a very controversial compound. For the last ten years it has undergone rigorous studies. Researchers concluded animal fat and dairy products containing traces of dioxin can cause cancer in humans.
Dioxin is produced by burning plastics and medical wastes containing chlorine. The dioxin becomes airborne until it eventually settles in grass and feed which livestock and poultry consume. Once eaten, it situates itself in fat tissues similar to DDT. People may consume the contaminated fat as foods and dairy products.
Studies have shown people who consume even small amounts of dioxin face a cancer risk as high as 1 in 1,000. Other problems associated with dioxin intake include; attention disorder, learning disabilities, susceptibility to infections and liver disorders. Fortunately, dioxin production has declined by 80% since 1970 and it is expected to be more tightly regulated in the future.
